Well, we had about 25 guys there. I did a demo on dot weathering, Ed showed a fantastic slide show on Iraq, Iain did a demo on color modulation, and I did a demo on chipping. Those in attendance ate it up. It was a great event and we could have gone all day with it but some other group had the room at 2.
I answered about a hundred other armor modeling questions in the course of the day and everybody got a lot out of it. It was a home run all the way around.

Sounds like an excellent time. We should think about integrating it into our show..

JG you're about the 5th person to suggest that. If we can get demonstrators, [NOT ME!] I think a boot camp series during the show would be a blockbuster hit.

Matt,
I would be willing to do the hairspray demo at some point. I am pretty confident that I could pull it of in a way that would help others to grasp the concept and reduce the reluctance to try it. I would however like to judge at an AMPS show in order to learn the format. If it is not possible to do both in one day, I would prefer to judge and do the hairspray thing at the next show or next bootcamp.

Iain,
Our show is two days this year so you can certainly do both. Thanks.

As fresh meat here, can someone give me a rundown of this 'bootcamp'.  When was it?  Where was it?  What did you do?  When is the next one??!

Hi bbrowniii,
Welcome to the club forum. What's your real name? Do you live in CT?
The Armor Boot Camp was Saturday March 27th at the Hopewell Junction Library but we can hold it anywhere like that. It was a one day workshop where people who want to learn to build armor better came to see demos of techniques, methods, and modeling skills from master armor modelers.
These master modelers also brought gold medal models to display and answer questions on how they achieved the look of their models. Modelers brought in their works in progress to get guidance and advice from the more experienced modelers.
Demos were color modulation, dot staining, and chipping. A media show Iraq report by an Army Blackhawk pilot capped off the day. About an hour of general armor modeling Q&A left everyone with new skills, new ideas, and lots of inspiration.
There is no next Boot Camp scheduled as of yet, but if we get enough requests we could hold another, maybe in CT this time.

Hey Matt,

Thanks for the info.  I would definately be interested in doing something like that.

To answer your questions (and sorry I didn't 'officially' introduce myself), it's me, Boyd Brown.  And yup, I'm a Connecticut guy - I live out by UConn in the boonies... actually, I live in Ashford, but it's pretty much the same thing.

Oh, Hi Boyd! Welcome aboard! I'm glad you decided to join us. Do you want me to put you on the club email list?

Matt

Absolutely!  That would be great.  Thom has been really putting the pressure on me to get to one of your meetings when they are at his house, which I definately intend to do.  Getting the letter will be added motivation!! Grin
